High School Scholars Internship Program (HSSIP)

Overview

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) established the High School Scholars Internship Program (HSSIP) in 2019. This program is a six-week paid summer internship for students entering their senior year of high school. The program provides students at targeted Washington, D.C., public and charter schools with an opportunity to work, explore career paths, and gain an understanding of the OCC's mission and important work the agency does for the financial services industry.

HSSIP Participants

The OCC partners with the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services (DOES) under the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program to identify potential HSSIP participants.

Eligibility and Selection Process

Internship candidates go through a demanding three-phase selection process. First, school counselors and administrators nominate candidates. Next, OCC officials interview and select the nominees. Finally, DOES administers a rigorous application process. The candidates that successfully navigate each phase are then selected for this unique opportunity.

Length of Internship

The HSSIP is a six-week paid summer internship opportunity. The internship will typically begin in June and conclude in August.

For printable information, you can download the HSSIP broadsheet. You can also email questions to the HSSIP mailbox.
