If you’re seeking a career change, you’re able to explore a new role without leaving the agency.

My Career With the OCC
After I graduated, my family encouraged me to work at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to get an in-depth understanding of the banking industry. I started in Chicago’s field offices, where I earned my National Bank Examiner commission before joining our large bank supervision team at JP Morgan Chase in New York. After nearly four years with our large bank supervision team, I entered into and completed the OCC’s management development program (LeaderTRACK) before returning to Illinois to assume my current role.
I started the LeaderTrack program in 2010 and completed six-month rotations in managerial roles in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh. The program exposes you to situations you’ve never experienced and helps you discover how to be a better leader. You learn about different lines of business and the challenges managers face throughout the agency. No matter the path you take after the program, it’s beneficial to walk in another manager’s shoes.
My Favorite Thing About My Work
There is no typical day, which is one of the best things about my job. I supervise 18 banks in the Chicago and Wisconsin areas, so my work largely depends on their needs or what’s happening in our office. I enjoy being able to make an impact on the people and banks we regulate.
On Career Development
In 16 years with the OCC, I’ve never felt stuck in one position. If you’re seeking a career change, you’re able to explore a new role without leaving the agency. Unlike many organizations, the OCC encourages employees to explore different business areas within the agency.
Advice for New Examiners
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you don’t understand something, ask a colleague or a manager. The work we do is unique, and a lot of it is learned on the job. Admitting you don’t understand a certain task will help you progress as a new examiner.
Outside of Work
I spend my free time with my two children. I have a passion for music and enjoy listening to new artists and attending concerts.
