Opportunities for Veterans and Military Spouses

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is committed to supporting veterans seeking jobs in the federal government. We value the unique experiences each veteran brings to the OCC community. This page provides information about the types of jobs available, as well as information about salaries, benefits, and our commitment to equal opportunity and reasonable accommodation.

Veterans' Preference

Veterans who are disabled or who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during specific time periods or military campaigns are entitled to preference in competitive hiring selections.

The Current Openings page provides links to OCC jobs, along with information about how to apply. If the vacancy states that it is open to all sources and you are qualified for the position, you will receive veterans' preference accordingly. In order to receive your preference, you must send us proof of your military service along with your application. (Read the vacancy announcement to learn what documentation is required). You may also be eligible to apply for positions open only to current or former federal employees under the Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (see below).

Visit the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's Feds Hire Vets website for details about veterans' preference, including the two programs below:

Veterans' Recruitment Appointment (VRA)

Veterans with certain military service records may be hired for competitive service positions at grades NB-IV and below without a competitive selection process, if they meet the qualifications for the job. Certain conditions of employment may apply to employees hired under the VRA program. A veteran who is eligible for a VRA appointment is not automatically eligible for veterans' preference. 30 Percent or More Disabled Veterans Program Veterans with service-connected disabilities of 30 percent or more may be hired for a temporary appointment of more than 60 days or a term appointment without a competitive selection process. Unlike the VRA program, there is no limitation on the level at which you may be hired for this authority, but the appointee must meet all qualification requirements, including any written test requirement.

Veterans Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA)

The VEOA gives preference eligibles or veterans access and opportunity to apply for positions for which the agency is accepting applications beyond its own workforce under merit promotion procedures. Veterans’ preference does not apply to merit promotion actions. Access and opportunity are not an entitlement to the position and it is not a guarantee for selection.

Military Spouse Employment Partnership

Military Spouse

The OCC recognizes that military spouses have the education, diversity, and skills that our nation needs to be the most competitive, productive workforce in the world. Hiring and retaining military spouses as they relocate to new geographic locations is not only good for business, but it is the right thing to do as we thank them for their continued service to this nation. Military spouses offer the Federal Government a ready workforce with the 21st century workforce skill sets capable of producing both national and international business success.
