My Path to the OCC

My first experience with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) was as a contractor in the IT department. I worked on a team that developed a system’s development lifecycle. I’ve always been interested in IT, but I never expected to work as a federal employee.

My Day-to-Day Work

I work with a team of more than 20 IT and Public Affairs Web professionals to develop and design enhancements to OCC’s Websites. Lately, we’ve been focused on making our Websites responsive and preparing our public sites to provide better information and analytics.

Workplace Culture

The project teams here are diverse and made up of people from all professional backgrounds. Team members have their own sets of skills, and everyone trusts their expertise and contributions. It makes for a very respectful and collaborative work environment.

Professional Development at the OCC

The OCC takes great strides to offer professional development opportunities to its employees and help them progress in their careers.

The agency offers training that supports my career goals. I’ve taken an on-site course called Agile Bootcamp to learn about agile project management, a course at Carnegie-Mellon on IT project management, and an internal course called Managing Your Career.

Outside of Work

I started coaching basketball several years ago. I founded a 5th grade basketball team in Arlington and currently work with them three times a week.
